We have been asked several times, “Why China?”. It’s technically a closed country, where we are going is extremely cold in the winter and it isn’t the cleanest place in the world either. Many, many reasons could be listed as to why China isn’t a place we should want to or plan to live. But there is one main reason why we believe we are to go to China: God and His command to go into all the world and preach the Gospel. I don’t believe everyone should or will go to China but we all have our part in the Great Commission. We believe it is our part to work in the nation of China.

God’s Glory

We believe the ultimate drive in what God does is Himself. He wants and deserves glory from us.  Psalm 96:8 says, “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts.” We want our lives to give ultimate glory to the God Who made us and saved us. He is great and greatly to be praised. Our first goal in going to China is to glorify God.

Great Commission

In connection with God’s desire for glory is the fact that He wants to be known throughout the entire world. Here are just a few passages that describe this:

And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. – Exodus 9:16

This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. – 1 Samuel 17:46

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations. – Psalm 67:1-2

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. – Luke 24:47

God is after worldwide fame and we want to be a part of it by preaching His Gospel to the people of China. Christ’s only prayer request and His last command on this earth were in reference to spreading His name among the nations.

This is Where We Believe We Should Serve

The question for Christians when it comes to the Great Commission is never about what we are to do because we know what it is we are to be doing: preaching the Gospel, baptizing new converts and discipling them. The question is where do I serve in fulfilling the Great Commission. We believe that China is the country in which we should serve. It is the largest nation on earth with over 1.3 billion people. Christianity is a little over 5% of the total population and this includes everything that calls itself Christian. There is a great need in China for church-planting, leader-training ministries. This is what we believe God has called us to do and we are doing everything we can to get there.
